Emily

Emily had a special surprise planned for me and Hartford. She wrapped this box last month and told us a number of times that she needed eight minutes to get it ready for us. On Christmas morning she gave us a timer that she had set for eight minutes. Then she ran downstairs and soon hollered for us to come and open our present. Emily was the best present eight years ago and she still is.

Gingerbread house Emily mentioned it a number of times that she wanted to make a gingerbread house. One morning I stopped at Publix and picked up the last kit that they had. Later that morning, Hartford called and I mentioned that I purchased a kit and he said that he was glad that I told him because he was going to pick up one later that day.

Santa's Workshop
North Pole

Hello Emily,

Season’s Greetings! Let me introduce myself. I’m Bell. And I’m one of Santa’s Magic Elves. I work in the doll department at the North Pole. If you promise not to tell Santa, I’ll tell you a secret. Do you promise? I hope you promised. I just finished making an American Girl doll sized pair of pajamas especially for you. I think that they are so cute. The pants have stars on them and the shirt has a unicorn on it. I hope you like them.

This morning I had the best time ever playing snowball tag with the other elves, the reindeers, and Santa. Santa wore three pairs of thick socks so that he could take off his boots and sneak up on the reindeers. He scared Rudolph so bad that he jumped up and flipped backwards. It was the funniest sight ever and I laughed so hard that I fell down and rolled in the snow.

Did you know that there are Christmas Fairies at the North Pole? Snowflake is my favorite. She is a teeny tiny fairy with the brightest twinkle in the entire world. Star is Snowflakes’ best friend and they enjoy playing snow tag with the other fairies.
Santa’s calling so I must run for now.

Holiday Hugs and Fairy Dust Kisses,
Bell
P.S. Remember, don’t tell Santa that I told you about the unicorn pajamas.

Missy cat
December, 2009

Dear Folks,

Don’t faint, its Missy cat writing to wish each of you a Merry Christmas. I know, I know it has been a long time since I have written. You know, I do have a lot of other things to do, such as pounce, nap, hunt, nap, eat, nap, bathe, nap, purr, and nap. I’m sure you get the idea.

Regardless of what my Mama may think or say, I can do two things at once. Just because things didn’t work out exactly the way that I had planned that day when I tried to pounce and purr at the same time, doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m uncoordinated. I’m here to tell you that if I wasn’t sitting on the very edge of the deck’s banister and if that bird was just a smidgen closer to me, I wouldn’t have fallen in the flower pot of dirt. My paws were sore for a month, two weeks, three days and seven minutes, but who’s counting? Mama laughed so hard that she almost hurt my feelings. But then I remembered that she is the only one who knows where my dry food is located. Therefore, I had to forgive her quickly before my tummy began to grumble.

For Christmas, I want a pair of thumbs. Please make sure that they are light gray and come in a size small. I’m not sure where you buy them, but I suspect that you can buy them at Thumbs ‘R Us. I think thumbs would be really cool. The possibilities are endless. I wonder if I could finally scratch that itch that lives in my ear.

However, if you can’t find thumbs, I’ll settle for taters. I’m not sure what taters are, but Mama thinks I already have some. She
always tells me to hold my taters when I want to go outside or the water in the faucet isn’t running. When Emily hears Mama tell me to hold my taters, she just giggles.

And while we are on the subject of Emily and giggling, let me ask, “will the giggling ever end?” That child giggles six hundred, thirty-nine times a day, give or take a giggle. But, who’s counting?

Well, there is a grumble in my tummy, so I’ve got to go. I wonder if I can purr and eat at the same time. I think that I’ll try it, but only if there aren’t any flower pots around.

Merry Christmas,
Missy cat

Presents

We asked Emily if she got what she wanted for Christmas and she replied, "I got things that I wanted and things that I wanted that I didn't even know I wanted."

Unicorn

Last month Emily decided that she wanted to wrap some presents for me so she wrapped up several boxes with her stuffed animals. She grieved over this unicorn. We told her that she could go ahead and open those boxes but she refused to do it. I believe that she thought that I wouldn't have anything to open, but once Hartford convinced her that he had a present for me, she agreed to open the boxes and boy was she ever happy to see her unicorn.

Oops, Emily didn't get her letter written to Santa in time to mail it. She wrote him a thank you note on Christmas Eve and told him she would get a list mailed to him in 2010.

Work of art

Emily created this owl at school. I framed it.

Not thrilled

Neither one of them are thrilled that I took a picture of them.
